“共和国勋章”获得者、84岁的中国工程院院士钟南山如今成为全国民众心中的英雄和偶像。在科学精神薪火相传中，偶像的力量举足轻重。10月30日，在第三届世界顶尖科学家论坛发表视频致辞时，钟南山说：
“任何国家的科学事业最终目的并不是培养诺贝尔奖得主，或者其他奖得主。获奖只是一支温度计，它是科学发展成就和科创环境长期客观的反映。”
“全世界有数不清的年轻人，会以包括今天与会的许多科学家为偶像，但我们不能满足于此，成为偶像的目的就是要更好地消除青年人对偶像的盲从。通过偶像，让年轻人学到他们对问题的看法，更多地问问为什么。让更多现在潜在的顶尖奖项得主，真正成为人类社会的服务者，让科学服务于大众。”

第三届世界顶尖科学家论坛30日起在上海召开，为期三天。包括61位诺贝尔奖得主在内、共有137位图灵奖、菲尔兹奖、沃尔夫奖、拉斯克奖等全球顶尖科学奖项获得者参加。在这次论坛上，联合科学力量对抗新冠疫情成为共识。
The Third World Laureates Forum kicked off in Shanghai last Friday, with nearly 140 world-class scientists including 61 Nobel Prize winners, addressed global science and technology issues.
In the global fight against the pandemic, scientists across the world have crossed borders and strengthened exchanges of knowledge, such as sharing virus genome sequences and cooperating on vaccine research and development.

在致辞中，钟南山也表示，今年以来，包括中国在内的全球科学工作者、医务工作者为拯救生命付出了巨大努力，很多人甚至为此奉献出了生命，各国同行们持续奋力推进病毒检测、疫苗研发等工作。应对疫情，全球合作已是科学界的共识，这绝不是一句漂亮话，必须切实执行。
“科学家有国籍，但是科学是没有国界的。战胜疫情必须全球合作，而且是比现在更紧密更高的合作。”
"We have all done lots of research and made great contributions to minimizing the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic to human lives, and it's important for us to further join forces, either in early diagnostics or in the research and development of vaccines and treatment for the virus and other possible pandemics in the future," said Zhong Nanshan, China's leading respiratory disease expert and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

当前，全球新冠疫情不容乐观，截至当地时间10月30日，美国新冠肺炎确诊病例已超900万例。而欧洲则遭遇第二波疫情反弹，各国纷纷采取封城措施，欧洲也被世界卫生组织称为当下疫情的“震中”。（戳这里回顾）
在这样的全球形势下，我国会不会出现第二波疫情呢？
近日，钟南山院士也发声，表达了他关于疫情的最新研判。
10月30日，由世界中医药学会联合会主办的首届“健康中国•中医药促进大会(西柏坡)高峰论坛在河北石家庄开幕。钟南山在视频发言中表示，按照现在中国防控的制度以及执行强度，他不认为第二波新冠肺炎疫情会在中国暴发。
Despite sporadic outbreaks, a second wave of COVID-19 infections is not likely to happen in China thanks to forceful prevention and control, Zhong Nanshan, China's leading respiratory disease expert, said last Friday.
钟南山在视频发言中指出，从全球来看，第二波新冠肺炎疫情实际上已经开始，现在随着天气的变冷，特别是北半球情况会加重。在中国会不会暴发第二次疫情，他认为可能性很低，因为中国做了一套完整的防控机制，特别是群防群控。但是也要警惕，因为最近有八次零星的发作，且每次发作时间间隔都在缩短，所以要特别警惕。
Zhong Nanshan said through a video at a conference in Shijiazhuang, Hebei province, last Friday, that from a global perspective the second wave has already begun and some countries have imposed lockdowns again. But although the pandemic may worsen in most countries in the northern hemisphere, there is little possibility for the novel coronavirus to hit hard again in China, he said.
"We have a complete mechanism for prevention and control of the virus among the mass population," he said, adding society should remain cautious as regional outbreaks have occurred eight times recently. "But I don't think a second wave will happen in the country with such robust systems," he said.
秋冬季节是流感高发季节，新冠疫情与流感会否叠加发生引发了许多人的担忧。钟南山认为，今年以来中国其它传染病特别是流感患病率显著下降，这说明采用新冠肺炎那一套个人防护办法对流感是有效的。同时，他建议，检测仪器最好能够同时检测新冠肺炎和流感，这样的话就能尽快得出诊断并针对用药。
