也许你还不知道，在美国，犹太人圣诞节吃中餐的传统已经有100多年的历史了。近日，Vox新媒体网站写了一篇文章揭秘这其中的历史渊源。
文章作者采访了纽约大都会犹太教堂(Metropolitan Synagogue in New York)的教士、 《一个犹太人的圣诞节》(A Kosher Christmas)的作者Joshua Eli Plaut。
Plaut介绍道，美国犹太人在中国餐馆吃饭可以追溯到1899年，当时，犹太移民与中国移民比邻而居。
It begins at the end of the 19th century, on the Lower East Side, where Jewish and Chinese immigrants lived in close proximity. By 1936, a publication called the East Side Chamber News reported at least 18 Chinese tea gardens and chop suey eateries in heavily-populated Jewish neighborhoods.

Google Trends data lends some insight, showing that searches for “Chinese food” spike on Christmas compared to any other day of the year. On Yelp, the same pattern emerged: For the past six years, page views for Chinese restaurants peaked on December 25th, all more than doubling their usual share.

▌犹太教的洁食规定

In terms of kosher law, a Chinese restaurant is a lot safer than an Italian restaurant. In Italian food, there is mixing of meat and dairy. A Chinese restaurant doesn't mix meat and dairy, because Chinese cooking is virtually dairy-free.
就洁食规定而言，中国餐馆比意大利餐馆安全得多。在意大利食物中，肉类和奶制品是混合在一起的。中国餐馆则不混合肉类和奶制品，因为中式烹饪几乎不含奶制品。
中餐与犹太人的文化契合
